School Bus Safety
School buses are the safest mode of motorized transportation for getting children to and from school. All drivers can be involved in school bus safety to keep our children safe.
Students are about 70 times more likely to get to school safely when taking a bus instead of traveling by car (NHTSA).
We all have an important part to play in keeping our children safe on the road.
If you see a school bus with lights flashing, slow down and prepare to stop.
School Bus Safety
Talk to your children about school bus safety and encourage them to follow these key guidelines:
At the bus stop, stand at least three giant steps away from the approaching bus.
After getting off the bus, stay in clear sight of the driver, especially while crossing in front of the bus.
Always watch for oncoming traffic around the bus, including vehicles that may try to get around the stopped bus.
While on a school bus, remain seated and facing forward during the entire ride.
If you drop something around a school bus, tell the bus driver before picking it up to make sure he or she sees you.
