Durham became one of the first cities in NC to pass a Vision Zero resolution in September 2017, leading the way among mid-sized cities in the state and in the nation. Since that time, the City has implemented Vision Zero aligned projects and programs to make streets safer for all road users. In 2024, the City of Durham will focus on convening partners, documenting and sharing relevant street safety data, and identifying key strategic actions to end traffic deaths and serious injuries. In early 2024, City staff will work closely with the Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) to develop a regional Safety Action Plan as part of the Safe Streets for All federal grant opportunity. To learn more about Durham’s Vision Zero efforts, please visit their website here.
